Healing Trauma Through the Body

In my work with clients, I’ve seen the profound impact of reconnecting with the body as an essential part of healing. Many of our struggles - anxiety, chronic tension, burnout - aren’t just in the mind; they’re held in the body. When we experience trauma or persistent stress, our body remembers, storing these experiences in ways that can later show up as physical or emotional challenges.

​Trauma isn’t always a single big event. Often, it’s woven through our everyday lives in subtle ways - hidden in early pressures, societal expectations, and times we’ve disconnected from our true selves. Over time, our bodies hold onto these moments, and they can manifest as persistent feelings of unease, chronic conditions, or emotional struggles.

Why a Body-Based Approach?

Healing trauma isn’t just about talking or thinking differently. It begins with noticing and honouring the sensations and signals within our bodies. Most of us have learnt to tune out from physical sensations because feeling them was too painful at one time. But real healing starts when we bring awareness to our bodies in a gentle, accepting way.

Taking just a few moments each day to check in - feeling where there might be tension, noticing any physical sensations without trying to change them - can begin to ease years of disconnection. This simple practice can open the door to a more grounded, present way of being.

Reconnecting With Ourselves

The modern world often pushes us to constantly achieve, to work through pain, and to prioritise productivity over well-being. This lifestyle keeps us in survival mode, but it’s not sustainable. True healing happens when we create a sense of safety, understanding, and self-compassion. Reconnecting with our bodies and acknowledging these deeply held experiences is the path to finding greater freedom and balance.

In my sessions, I guide each client into a feeling of safety in a trauma-informed way. I help clients reconnect with their bodies to be present with, process, and ease the trauma held within, using my yoga therapy techniques.

Intake & Health Assessment:
The first step is an extensive intake process, which allows us to get to know each other, as well as gather information about your holistic health history (physical, emotional, mental and spiritual). We will also complete a structural assessment, check vital signs, identify your Ayurvedic constitution, assess your breathing patterns, and discuss your health goals.

Intake and assessment: 90 minutes | $140 NZD.

Private Yoga Therapy Sessions:
We will then work together over an agreed period of time to create a customised practise for you. These sessions will take into consideration your needs, preferences and experiences in response to the tools we introduce. Homework and guided meditations may also be provided.

Each session will focus on addressing all levels of health and well-being, using the eight limbs of yoga: postures (asana), breath retraining and breathing techniques (pranayama and buteyko breathing method), mindfulness (pratyahara and dharana), trauma-informed practises, and guided meditation (dhyana), all tailored to your unique needs. Lifestyle practises (yamas & niyamas) will also be woven throughout our work together. All leading you to your own inner wholeness (samadhi).

Self-guided Program:
Don't have the time to meet with us regularly? Some clients prefer to meet with us for an initial consultation and receive a self-guided yoga therapy program they can do themselves from anywhere at any time. Click here to find out more about our self-guided programs.​
