BREATHING TO HEAL

from Long Covid Symptoms

A HOLISTIC APPROACH TO A COMPLEX PROBLEM

We take a personalised and comprehensive approach to supporting individuals who are experiencing symptoms of long covid, also known as long haul covid or post-covid syndrome.

If you've come to this page seeking assistance with your condition, we're here to help.

Picture
If you've spoken to others who are also dealing with long covid, you may have noticed that the condition can present in many different ways. Each person's experience is unique, and there is still much to be learned about this emerging condition. However, some common symptoms include brain fog, breathing difficulties, cardiorespiratory issues, and fatigue, which can all have an impact on mental health.

Our team is committed to working with you to develop a personalised plan that addresses your unique needs and goals. Whether you're looking to manage symptoms, improve your physical function, or boost your mental well-being, we're here to support you every step of the way.

Long covid is a relatively new condition in New Zealand, and our experience working with people who have the condition has shown us that its symptoms can take many forms. Because of this, we take a personalised and holistic approach to help each client recover. Our programmes and one-on-one sessions are tailored to each person's needs on any given day, using the holistic framework of yoga therapy and gentle breath retraining techniques.

During our private sessions, we address all aspects of wellbeing - physical, energetic, psychological, social, and spiritual - to create a customised therapy practice that supports your specific needs. By working on all of these layers together, we help you achieve harmony and return to your full potential. We understand that with long covid, every day can be different, so we adapt our approach to meet you where you are each time we work together.

what does a private session with you look like?

Our Yoga Therapy and breath re-training sessions and programmes are not 'yoga class yoga'. Given what many people with long covid do have in common, the program will include breath-work and practicing relevant gentle breathing techniques to help you breathe with greater ease. Sessions take place in person or online and include gentle movement to release tension and support the health of the joints and muscles, and to strengthen the cardiovascular and respiratory systems without worsening fatigue, and guided relaxation/ meditation to calm the nervous system and bring the body back into balance so it can heal and recover.

how we can help

We address all the pillars of health and breathing, including the biochemistry and mechanics. We develop personalised yoga therapy and breath retraining programmes drawing on methods including Buteyko, yoga therapy and methods used in physiotherapy.

Most clients get the best results from 5-6 sessions along with consistent practise between sessions. Whether you continue with us after that depends on your goals.

assessment

The first step is an extensive intake process, which allows us to get to know each other, as well as gather information about your holistic health history (physical, emotional and mental). We will also complete a structural assessment, check vital signs, assess your breathing patterns, and discuss your health goals.

Intake and assessment: 75-90 minutes | $140 NZD.
In person (if in Auckland), or online via video chat
(International clients: we accept Paypal and Bitcoin payments)

program

We will then work together over an agreed period of time on a customised practise for you. These sessions will take into consideration your needs, preferences and experiences in response to the tools we introduce. Homework and guided meditations may also be provided.

Each session will focus on addressing all levels of health and well-being, using the approach of yoga therapy: very gentle postures, depending on how you are feeling on the day, functional breath retraining and breathing techniques to correct dysfunctional breathing, mindfulness, trauma-informed practises, and guided meditation, all tailored to your unique needs. Lifestyle practises will also be woven throughout our work together. All leading you back to your own inner wholeness. We may also advise on general nutritional support for long covid symptoms.

Private in person or online Breathing to Heal Session: 1 hour 15 minutes $140 NZD
Corrective breathing mini sessions: 45 minutes $90

testimonials

I contacted Danika in early January after I had spent most of the previous year struggling with Long Covid.  I had started to improve, and I knew that movement was important to my recovery, but that it had to be gentle and tailored to my needs to ensure that it did not trigger the overexertion / crash cycle.
Danika is a yoga therapist – not just a yoga teacher.  At our very first session she took a detailed “case history”.  From there she was able to build me an individualised programme.  Almost immediately working with Danika I found that I experienced a loosening of tension and increased openness in my rib cage and shoulders.  Slowly but steadily my breathing started to feel more comfortable.  My fatigue dropped away and I was able to get back to the things I was doing before – all with a feeling of being a bit more grounded.
I have also gained the confidence and capacity to attend local yoga class and know that I am doing it safely, for example, making the adjustments for my hypermobility and to pace myself according to my energy levels.
Danika teaches the Buteyko breathing method.  As an asthmatic, I had heard of this technique, but I had never given it a try.  I have found that having a daily breath work practice has transformed my energy levels and my ability to find moments of calm in the day.  It is now a daily habit that I am very grateful for.  I recommend Danika's services to others.

Melanie, Auckland
"Danika is the best practitioner who I have ever worked with. I was diagnosed with glioblastoma almost a year and a half ago and had an awake brain surgery and radiotherapy and chemotherapy. My whole central nervous system needed gentle work even for the most simple movements. Danika is very careful that I fill my movements with tenderness and understanding as time is key to healing myself. Part of what really helps in this journey is a guided meditation which makes me feel very secure and part of the presence. This was difficult in the past, because I did different only aerobic yoga but didn’t understand the importance of the being in the present. After working with Danika I feel physically and emotionally stronger. Our sessions are such a lovely time of my week. Many thanks to Danika and I would recommend her to anyone.
Sandra, Ireland, UK
"I was feeling hopeless and ready to give up looking for answers when my son took me to see Danika for a program. I had spent the last 30 years in crippling pain and fatigue and taking many medications that didn't work. After following the guidance for a few months and making the diet changes in the program I couldn't believe the difference. I no longer need to take all the medicine and have my life back. I cannot thank you enough. I highly recommend Danika and Christian and the work they do."
Erin, Grey Lynn, Auckland
"Finding Danika has been a real gift. I was new to yoga when I searched for a place to start and now I feel what I get from our sessions is invaluable. Each practice is healing and empowering in an environment that's professional, empathetic and caring. She seems to be able to effortlessly tune in to what I need, be it movement, stillness, focus or calm. I am very grateful to have met her and to be able to benefit from her vast experience and learning. Danika is one of those wonderful people that makes a difference. 🙏🧘‍♀️"
Sue H, Auckland
"Working with Danika has been a game-changer for me! It took a while but my asthma is totally gone, and I don't need inhalers anymore. My sleep apnea and snoring are also way better. Plus, I've noticed other health improvements, all because we changed the way I breathe. It's pretty amazing!"
Cliff, Auckland
