Please do not build your bonfire pile in advance. Instead build it on the day you intend to light it - checking thoroughly underneath it before you start you fire. The other option is if you have a pile all ready to go - shift it on the day you intend to set it alight. This gives any wildlife a chance not to be burnt alive. These injuries ARE avoidable & unfortunately piles of wood/shrubbery make for the perfect sleeping area for a hedgehog. *Message from Hedgehog Rescue NZ*.
